📍 Identity

Dolichi is located north of Elassona, at an altitude of 586 meters, carrying centuries of history on its back.Its name, preserved since antiquity, has changed over the years — Tuchlista, Ntuchlista — but eventually returned to its ancient form, as if the very memory of the place reclaimed it.

Its roughly 334 inhabitants remain deeply connected to the land: farmers, stockbreeders, and now many retirees.Their daily life is simple, reflected in the architecture and character of the village itself.

Ancient Dolichi was one of the cities of Perrhaebia, known from references by ancient authors.Its location corresponds to the Kastri Hill, where archaeological finds reveal traces of continuous human presence through the centuries.

In later years, the name of the settlement changed — Tuchlista or Ntuchlista — before finally returning to its historical name, Dolichi, as a tribute to the unbroken continuity of the place.

🏛️ Points of Interest

Church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour (1515):

A stone church of the 16th century, notable for its austere elegance and enduring architecture — a testament to the faith and perseverance of the villagers through the ages.The original structure is believed to date back to the Middle Byzantine period (9th–11th century).

It remains the spiritual and social heart of Dolichi.

Archaeological Site “Kastri”:

Here lie the remains of ancient Dolichi — sections of fortification walls, pottery, and coins.

The site also offers an impressive panoramic view over the Thessalian plain.

Hill of Prophet Elias:

A favorite spot among locals for walks and quiet reflection, offering sweeping views of northern Thessaly and the slopes of Mount Olympus.

🎉 Culture & Events

Every year, on August 5th and 6th, Dolichi celebrates the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Saviour with music, traditional dances, and local food.

It is a festive gathering that brings residents and visitors together, blending tradition with the vibrancy of the present.

A major cultural highlight of recent years was the “Perrhaebian Tripolis” Festival (2008–2019), as well as the Dolichos Race, which connects the memory of the ancient world with the spirit of modern athletic tradition.
